The dedicated members of the 8th Executive Committee played a pivotal role in steering Gulshan Society towards progress. Their visionary leadership and collaborative efforts contributed to enhancing the community, advocating for residents’ needs, and fostering a harmonious living environment for all.
Dr. ATM Shamsul Huda, President of the immediate past EC of Gulshan Society has been reelected President of the eighth EC for a further term of two years. Dr. Huda completed BA (Honors) and MA degrees in History from Dhaka University obtaining the First Class First position in both. He also earned a Masters and a PhD degree from Syracuse University, New York, USA in Public Administration in 1975 and 1979 respectively.Â
He started his career as a teacher in the Department of History, Dhaka University and later joined the Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP)Â in 1966.
During his 34 years of long service with the Government, Dr. Huda held such positions as Chairman, Bangladesh Water Development Board, Managing Director, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Bank, Secretary , Banking Division, Ministry of Finance and Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources. He was appointed Chief Election Commissioner in 2007and retired in 2012 after completing his term of office.
He is a founding member of the Gulshan Society. Currently, he is serving as a Member of the Board of Trustees of Transparency International, Bangladesh and Head and Neck Cancer Foundation, Dhaka. He is also the President of the Board of Trustees of Kendriyo Kanchi Kachar Mela. He has many publications to his credit and is a honorary fellow of Bangla Academy.
Seema Haider Chaudhury, was elected a Vice President of the eighth Executive Committee of Gulshan Society as a first time candidate. A resident of Gulshan for 45 years, she is an Advocate of Supreme Court and has been working as a legal practitioner since 1993.
She did her LL.B and LL.M from Dhaka University and later on pursued LL.M degree at Kings College, London under a British Commonwealth Scholarship. As a partner of internationally reputed law firm Juris Counsel, she got involved in preparing briefs on wide ranging matters covering banking, company, contract, telecommunication, housing, finance and power projects financed by international lending organizations and multinational corporations.
Moving on, Seema worked as law officer of Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd and head of legal department of Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO). She has also worked for various research institutes and human rights organizations like Bangladesh International Legal Institute and Association (BILIA), Fair Election Monitoring Association (FEMA), Bangladesh Women’s Lawyers Association (BNWLA) and Center for Analysis and Choice (CAC). She also served as a part-time Lecturer in Company Law at the University of Asia Pacific.
At present, she is providing legal consultancy services from her own chamber. She is also a franchise owner of prestigious foreign restaurant Shiraz and a sole proprietor of Al Noor Associates, a trading concern of garment accessories.
A life member of Gulshan Society, Delwar H. Dulal has been one of the most active members of the Society. He played the leading role in enrolling the highest number of residents as member and in organizing such drives as Clean Gulshan Campaign, Community Policing and freeing the Gulshan South Park from the occupation of the sweepers.
Dulal has been elected to the EC of the Society couple of times in different positions, the last being as the Secretary General of the immediate past EC. He also held the position of the President of Gulshan Health Club.
He is also actively involved in the Gulshan Society Jame Masjid, Gulshan Central Masjid and Eidgah Society, CRP, Gulshan Joggers Society, Gulshan Runners Society, Capital Recreation Club Ltd, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association and Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
After obtaining his BA (Hons) and MA degrees in Economics, Neaz Ahmed embarked on a long and distinguished career in banking. He started his career with the Grindlays Bank as a management trainee and stayed with them for 19 years that included a stint at Wellington, New Zealand as Manager.
After returning to Bangladesh, he held various senior positions at the IFIC and Premier Banks. He was appointed Managing Director of Southeast Bank and later on moved to National Bank Ltd as its Managing Director and CEO wherefrom he retired in 2013.Neaz is now the Senior Faculty and Dean, Future CEO Program of Workplace Skill Development Academy of New Zealand based in Dhaka.
He has also been an Honorary Consul of New Zealand since 2007.Outside of work, Neaz is a keen sportsman, having been award-winning lawn tennis player during 1970-80. He was a national semi-finalist in 1973 and 1974 and a doubles champion in 1981.
A Barrister of the Lincoln’s Inn, Omar Sadat obtained his LL.B degree from School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and his LL.M degree from Cambridge University. He is one of the few who are allowed to practice before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He is a great organizer and his organizational abilities were recognized by his fellow students at Cambridge University who elected him as President of Cambridge University Student’s Union.
He is also an alumni of Harvard University having studied at John F. Kennedy School of Government and Politics.
Barrister Sadat is the Senior Partner at Sadat Sarwat and Associates, the largest law firm in Bangladesh. He is also Chairman of Leisure Bangladesh, a leading real estate company.
Barrister Sadat was elected a member of the third EC for 2006-2008 and again in the same capacity in the immediate past EC. He is a Rotarian and a former President of Rotary Club of Gulshan. He is a keen golfer and member of Kurmitola Golf Club and Dhaka Club.
After obtaining his BA (Hons) and MA degrees from Dhaka University, JanibulHuq joined the erstwhile Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP). As a young CSP office, he had the opportunity to serve at the field level as Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Sub-divisional Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner and gain vast experience of the complexities of local level governance and administration. He also obtained relevant training in development economics and administration at USA, UK and Singapore.
At the national Secretariat, Janibul served as Deputy Secretary, Â Joint Secretary & Additional Secretary in important Ministries.
He also held the position of the Chief Executive Officer of the unified Dhaka City Corporation and in that capacity was instrumental in dividing the DCC area into different zones. He retired from government service as Chairman, House Building Finance Corporation.
After retirement, Janibul also worked as a consultant for the World Bank, Asian Development Bank,United Nations Development Program and the DFID.
Janibul Huq earned many laurels for his good work in various fields. He was awarded President Gold Medal for his work in the LGRD Ministry. He achieved a medal of merit for his performance in the Scout Movement.
Janibul Huq was elected an EC member unopposed during the 2012-13 term.
Rokeya Quader obtained her LL.B and LL.M degrees from Dhaka University. She married the veteran freedom fighter and first Secretary, Ministry of Establishment Noorul Quader who also had a pioneering role in the flourishing of garment industry in Bangladesh. After his death, she took over the responsibility of running the Desh Group of Industries set up by her husband.
In addition to being the Chairperson of the Group, she is also actively involved in such organizations as BGMEA, MCCI, BEF and BAPLC.
She is a founding member of Gulshan Society and has been elected twice previously as Member of the EC.
A physician by profession, Dr. Hashem embarked on a long public service career after obtaining his MBBS and FCPS degrees. He held positions of Assistant Registrar, Registrar, Resident Surgeon, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor at different Medical Colleges.
Prior to his retirement, he was occupying the position of Professor and Head of Oncology Department, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital.
Dr. Hashem had the opportunity to serve the Gulshan Society twice prior to his current position, first time as an EC Member and later on as a Joint Secretary of the EC.
SAMM Nuruddin obtained his BA (Hons) and MA degrees in Sociology from Dhaka University. By profession a businessman, he is involved in export oriented leather goods. He is the Managing Director of Kid Leather Industry Ltd. A resident of Gulshan for the last 20 years, he is associated with a number of socio-cultural organization and Clubs.Â
He is a member of Gulshan Club, Rotary Club of Dhaka West and Uttara Club. He is also a member of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also actively involved with couple of health-related institutions like Assistance for Blind Children and Chittagong Shisu Hospital.
Nuruddin is a life member of Gulshan Society and takes active interest in its activities.
Advocate Ahsan passed her MA and LL.B examinations from Dhaka University. She has the distinction of being the first woman to be an Assistant Attorney General of Bangladesh. She served as a Counselor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow. She also worked as a Convenor of Legal Aid Committee of Jatiyo Mahila Sangstha.
For her legal background, she was enlisted as a panel lawyer of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripakha (RAJUK) and Sonali Bank. She also served as a Director of Grameen Bank. At present, she is a practicing advocate of Supreme Court of Bangladesh. She is a member of International Bar Association and American Bar Association.
She has attended many conferences and ministerial meetings as member of government delegation. She is also working as Chairman of Equal Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd, Dhaka.
Nasreen Mozammel had her early education at Anandomoi High School and Badrunnessa College, Dhaka. After getting married, she stayed with her husband at Dubai.
After returning from Dubai, she got involved in garment business as Director, Confidence Super Garments Ltd. She is also involved in boutique and bakery business. Nasreen is an active participant in socio-cultural activities she is a life member of Lion 315A and served the unit for two terms as Treasurer.Â
She is a member of Dhaka Mid City Club and also a founder member of IEB Mohila Committee. While doing the secretarial course at YMCA, she became interested in teaching under privileged children and became one of the few pioneers in this field.
Israt Jahan obtained her BA (Hons) and MA degrees in Economics from Chittagong University. Over the years, she kept herself engaged in various social welfare activities.Â
As a Life Member of Gulshan Society, she has been involved in various activities of the Society as a Committee member of Zone 1. She was also a member of Rotary Club Dhaka. Currently, she is a Member of the Executive Committee of Chittagong University Ex Economics Students’ Association as well as a Member of Bangladesh Economic Association.Israt had worked for sometimes as a teacher in HURDCO International School.
She also worked as a coordinator at Dawn Grammar School. She has now rejoined HURDCO as a teacher
A Life Member of Gulshan Society since its inception in 2002, Tazin Mahbub made her mark as a dedicated and task-oriented young professional. She is an architect and obtained her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Tazin worked independently and also in a few architectural firms. Later in 2003, she joined United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as Project Coordinator of JOBS/IRIS Bangladesh. During her tenure at USAID, she coordinated between USAID and the SME sectors.
She organized, reviewed and incorporated all pertinent information in the Terms of Reference (TOR) submitted by the Sector Development Projects in consultation with the concerned sector team. She prepared internal documentations and negotiation memoranda for all activities relating to procurement.
Tazin was also actively involved in the CISCO Networking Academy Program in Bangladesh to bridge the gap between the IT graduates and IT Sector/Telecommunication companies. She also joined with others in preparing a Community Impact Assessment of this program which is available on the internet.
Jahurul Islam Chowdhury is a graduate from Dhaka University. He is an established business leader and has been associated with various business entities and social organizations. He worked as Chairman, Far East Islamic Life Insurance Company Ltd during 2000-2008.
In pursuit of his business interests, he has also been deeply involved with Islamic Investment Cooperative Ltd, Purbani Lighterage Ltd, Home Partners Ltd, Northern General Insurance Company Ltd, and Global Investment Ltd.In the field of social work, Â he held the positions of Deputy Governor, Rotary International Bangladesh; Chairman, Kanchan Nagar ML High School, Chittagong.
Life Member of Baridhara and Uttara Club; Member of DCCI, IBFR and BMCCI; Founder Secretary of Gulshan Society Jame Masjid; Vice President of Bangladesh Cargo Vessel Owners’ Association; former Director of DCCI and FBCCI; Member of Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam.
Jahurul Islam Chowdhury set a record by getting elected to the EC of Gulshan Society, first to the third EC as General Secretary in 2006 and continued in that position in the fourth EC till 2009. He was reelected as EC Member in the fifth, seventh and eighth EC.
A businessman by profession, Shaheen is a Bachelor of Commerce from Dhaka University.Â
He is involved in various socio-cultural activities and has been active as a member of Gulshan Society, Gulshan Society Jame Masjid and Army Golf Club in implementing their various programs.Shaheen is the owner of a number of business initiatives and is involved deeply as Chairman of the following entities:
Salma Hossain was a student of Wills Little Flower School and Badrunnessa Government Girls’ College. She obtained her MA in Economics from Dhaka University. She is a devout business manager and a dedicated social worker.Â
She is the former Chairman of Alliance International and a former Director of Oshan Group. Presently, she is working as a Director of Rupaker Properties Ltd. In the field of social work, Salma is already a member of the EC of Gulshan Society to which position she was also elected for the immediate past term.
In that capacity, she participated in various activities relating to Lake Park management, aquaculture, traffic management and other civic services. Besides, she is involved with the All Community Club Limited and Rotary Club Gulshan as Director.
She is also a member of Banani Club Ltd, Baridhara Cosmopolitan Club Ltd, the Capital Recreation Club Ltd, Dhaka Rifles Club and Joggers Society.
Dr. Saiful Islam is a renowned physician, currently practicing in Dhaka. He obtained his MBBS from Dhaka and holds a Master degree from Mahidol University, Thailand.
He was a WHO Research Fellow in Primary Health Care. Presently, he is a Director and Chief of Pulse Medical Center. He is a GCC approved GAMCA Member Medical Checkup Center.
Dr. Saiful is a life member of Gulshan Health Club and had edited the only bulletin published by that Club. He is also a life member of Gulshan Central Mosque and Eidgah Committee.
Abdur Rahim obtained his BA (Hons) and MA in History from Dhaka University in 1957.Â
A journalist by profession, he worked for the Government as Principal Information Officer and later on served as the Press Minister, Bangladesh High Commission, London. Rahim is a former Executive Editor, the Bangladesh Observer and currently engaged in editing the Envoy, an English monthly.
He is a Senior Vice President, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Vice President, Bangladesh China Friendship Society and President, Shahitya Bangladesh.
He had participated at the UN General Assembly Session as a member of government delegation in 1980. He also represented Bangladesh at World Literary Conferences held at Moscow, Macedonia, Norway and Mexico City as Secretary General of PEN.
Ashraful Haq Chowdhury obtained his BA (Hons) and MA in Economics from Dhaka University. Later on, he did his MA in Economics and MS in IDS.
He worked as a Research Fellow in Economics at Toronto University. He worked for Government for five years (1982-87) as Assistant Director, Export Promotion Bureau. In 1990, he was appointed as Trade Adviser of the Commonwealth Secretariat. He also took an assignment as Managing Director, Delta Soft Limited. Currently, he is working as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Airtel Bangladesh Limited. Ashraf has been involved in a number of social welfare organizations.Â
He is a former Secretary General of BMCCI, a former Secretary of AMTOB and a former Director of All Community Club. He is also a former Adviser of Chittagong Samity.
Maizuddin had his early education at Ahmed Bawany School and Dhaka Residential Model College. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Science from Dhaka University.
After finishing his studies, he got interested in business and set up a paper mill and a brick manufacturing industry. In 2005, he was elected Joint Secretary in the first ever election of Gulshan Society and later on also served the Society as an EC Member. He was one of the signatories in the writ petition filed by the Society against the DNCC for trying to convert a large chunk of the Gulshan South Park for setting up a shopping mall and convention center.Â
He also carried out a pilot project in Zone 1 to see the feasibility of establishing a community policing system. Though the project showed encouraging result, it could not be replicated due to non-availability of funds.
Maizuddin is also involved in a number of social and religious organizations. In addition to his role as a Member of the EC, he is also a member of Gulshan (Bhola) Jame Masjid and Gulshan Society Jame Masjid.
A businessman by profession, Humayun obtained his BA degree from Dhaka University. He also earned a Diploma in Optical Science from Tokyo, Japan.Â
He is the Chairman of Empire Group that deals with real estate, manufacturing, trading and agro-business. He is also the Managing Director of Empire Estate Building Private Limited, a sister concern of Empire Group.
Humayun is also deeply involved in social welfare activities. He is one of the trustees of Humayun Foundation dedicated to charity.Â
He is the General Secretary of Gulshan Runners Club; Vice President of Bandura Holy Cross Alumni Association and Secretary (Relief) Dohar Samity.
Dr. Haque obtained his MBBS from Chittagong Medical College and MD in Pediatrics from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, India.Â
He had further training in Women and the Health of Mothers and Children (WMCH) Certification from the Center for International Health at Institute of Child Health, University of London. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (FRSH). For his contribution in his field of specialization, he was awarded the Consultant Certificate by the Modern Medicine Journal.
Dr. Haque has lived and worked in Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized him with the Excellence in Medical Profession Award in Primary Health Care Center in 2004 in Gurayat region. He has also a number of publications in the field of Primary and Child Health Care.
Dr. Haque took part in Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971. He is a Life Member of Australian Medical Society of Vienna, Austria.He is also a Member of the Royal Academy of Medicine in the Republic of Ireland. Dr. Haque is also engaged with several voluntary organizations. He is a Charter Member of Lions Club of Dhaka Metropolitan Bangladesh and Life Member of Gulshan Health Club.
Khan Mohammed Ali is an MBA by education and a business executive by profession.
He is the former Managing Director and CEO Drukair –Royal Bhutan Airlines. Currently, he is the Managing Director of Mams Travel and Tours and Mams Aviation Ltd.Â
Mohammed Ali has been associated with a number of leading multinational companies, international organizations and diplomatic missions. He is a past Secretary of Janata Housing Kalyan Samity . Currently, he is the President of Mathbaria Upazila Kalyan Samity and a member of Army Golf Club and Bangladesh Cancer Society.
Karim is a civil engineer with a BSC Engg (Civil) degree from BUET.Â
He started his career as an Assistant Engineer, PWD and moved up in the hierarchical chain by holding such positions as those of Superintending Engineer, Additional Chief Engineer and Member, National Housing Authority. He was posted as Chief Engineer, Education Engineering Department wherefrom he retired from public service.Â
Karim has been involved with a number of socio-cultural organizations. He is a life member of BUET Alumni Association.
A life fellow of Institution of Engineers; a member of the Executive Committee of BUET 72 Forum and a member of Gulshan Joggers Society. He is also a member of American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers Recreation Club. He also participates in the affairs of his own district and upazila. He is a Vice President of Greater Comilla Samity and an Advisor of Bancharampur Upazila Kalyan Samity. He was Chairman, Institution of Engineers, Barisal center.
Tauhidul Alam is an economist who graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a BA and an MA in Economics and International Development. He worked for United Nations Population Fund’s Strategic and Economic Policies from 2004 to 2014.Â
During his tenure at the UNFPA, he led the UN MDG Task Force, supported Bangladesh Development Forum, and the Development Partner’s Local Consultative Group on donor coordination. He rendered his expertise in UN activities around population, climate change and international migration.
In 2007, he was invited to participate at the high level plenary on pro-poor growth and macro-economic policies chaired by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and ESCAP Executive Secretary. Besides his tenure at the UNFPA, he was a Senior Lecturer at East West University Bangladesh, alumni of the World Bank Institute, visiting Fellow at the University of California Davis and a Graduate Assistant to the Chief Economist, California Energy Commission.
Tauhidul Alam has many publications to his credit. He was a member of the drafting committee of the United Nations Post 2015 Development Goals on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). He is the author of the pioneering international publication on Demographic Dividend in Bangladesh along with several other articles on foreign affairs and contemporary development discourse. He has experience in Doi Moi reform in Vietnam and in ASEAN economic cooperation. Presently, he is rendering his expertise to the Government and internationally on population, demography, economic growth and effective development cooperation.
Formed in 2002, Gulshan Society represents the residential inhabitants of Gulshan Model town in Dhaka. It advocates for property, habitat, and livability, fostering fellowship through social, cultural, and advocacy activities to create a peaceful, secure, and harmonious environment for its privileged members.
